Mary Helen Copeland, of Atlanta, passed away peacefully on February 29, 2016 after an extended illness. She is survived by her husband, James E. Copeland III and their sons, James and Ian, and her sister, Stephanie Bolton Villaveces of Athens Georgia.
Helen was born in the Mississippi Delta and lived much of her youth in Ohio. She settled in Atlanta as a young adult and graduated from Georgia State University with a degree in art education. She met her husband Trip while working part time in an art gallery. They were married in 1998. She was a passionate educator and worked for schools in DeKalb and Fulton counties. As her children became older, and she had more time, she decided to obtain a master’s degree in Library and Information Science from Valdosta State University. She finished her career as the Media Specialist/Librarian at Heards Ferry Elementary School in Sandy Springs.
Helen was a woman of faith and a memorial service will be held at 11 o’clock Friday March 4th at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 3003 Howell Mill Rd, Atlanta. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Atlanta Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America, where Helen has volunteered for many years.
