We are saddened to announce the passing of Margaret Baseman “Peggy” Dominey, who died peacefully on April 2, 2024 in her home in Sandy Springs, Georgia at the age of 84. Peggy was married to the late Samuel Sessions “Sam” Dominey, Jr., and was a loving mother to two sons, Craighton Fitch Dominey and William Todd Dominey.
Peggy was born on May 10, 1939 in Miami, Florida to Margaret Innis Fitch and Roy Taylor Baseman. She was raised in Coral Gables, Florida along with her older brother, Leroy Tunstal Taylor “Lee” Baseman. Peggy attended the University of Tennessee where she was a devoted Chi Omega sister, then moved to Atlanta where she began her career and started a family.
Peggy was loved by many in Sandy Springs, her neighborhood of Cameron Glen, as well as the mountain community of Big Canoe, Georgia. At Big Canoe, she was one of the early founders of Big Canoe Chapel, and enjoyed hiking and maintaining its nature trails. She was an early co-founder and board member of the Chattahoochee Nature Center in Roswell, and was instrumental in its creation. Peggy was a devoted volunteer at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta, as well as the Foundation for Hospital Art and her church home of Peachtree Presbyterian Church.
Throughout her long and happy life, Peggy was an avid hiker and world traveler. She was also a woman of deep Christian faith. She enjoyed collecting antiques and fine art. She was an avid reader, gardener and tennis player, loved horses, music and movies, and as a young girl especially admired Hollywood cowboy Roy Rogers. Most of all, she cherished her family and many close friends.
Peggy is survived by her first son Craighton Fitch Dominey and his wife Connie Jean Dominey, her second son William Todd Dominey and wife Heather Robertson Dominey, and two grandchildren, Sophia Marie Dominey and Drake Everett Dominey. She will be buried beside her beloved husband Sam at Big Canoe Cemetery in the mountains of North Georgia on June 15, 2024 at 1pm. An additional memorial service will be held on June 24, 2024 in Kellet Chapel at Peachtree Presbyterian Church, 3434 Roswell Road, Atlanta, GA 30305 at 2pm.
