He was raised as an only child to the late Lester Hobart Bodkin, Sr. and the late Genrose Conway Bodkin in Humboldt, Tennessee.
Hobart graduated from Humboldt High School and the Georgia Institute of Technology.
Hobart married his childhood sweetheart Martha Graves in 1947.
Following his service in the United States Air Force they made their home in Atlanta, GA. Martha’s secondary employment sustained them through his schooling at Georgia Tech.
Hobart and Martha met in grade school and were together for 88 years.
Hobart, his wife Martha, and their 3 children were active members at the Cathedral Peachtree Christian Church in Atlanta for 27 years.
Hobart served as Deacon, Elder, Finance Chairman, and Chairman of the Official Board and Executive Committee.
Hobart and Martha later joined Sandy Springs Methodist Church. Here he was a member for over 30 years. He also served as Chairman of the Official Board.
One of Hobart most satisfying accomplishments was a 15 year volunteer tour guide at the Fox Theater.
Hobart traveled to 49 U. S. states, Europe, China, and Australia. He lived a patient and extremely honest Christian life.
Judy Raczes entered his life as a caregiver to Martha for 3 years in lieu of a nursing home. After Martha’s passing, Judy remained assisting Hobart with his business and social affairs. Judy is extremely organized, loving, and provided a sparkle to Hobart’s life.
Hobart is survived by his daughter Rosalind Barker (Jim) of Wilmington NC, son Les H Bodkin III (Renee) of Camden SC, daughter Marilyn Payton (Charles) of Fort Mill SC, six grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
