Kathryn Thompson McKenzie, an Atlanta resident for over seventy years died on Tuesday, the 12th of April 2016. She was married to James W. McKenzie, Sr. for over 40 years, who preceded her in death in 1990. Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law; James W. McKenzie, Jr. and Ellen McKenzie; William T. McKenzie and Mary McKenzie, Kelly W. McKenzie and Lisa McKenzie; her daughter, Melissa McKenzie Kennon. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren; Erin McKenzie, Laurie and Matt McGuire, Caitlin McKenzie, Mary Cristin and James King, Mary Kathryn Kennon, Mac and Sarah Kennon, William Kennon, Elizabeth McKenzie, Walker McKenzie, Daniel McKenzie, and Kathryn McKenzie; as well as 7 great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. J. Fritz Thompson; cousin Joyce Thompson; and many nieces and nephews. Kathryn was a founding active member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. She was active with the P.T.A’s at Christ the King School and St. Pius X High School. Kathryn enjoyed many hobbies, including gardening, rug hooking, and swimming. She graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in business and earned a degree in Interior Design from Georgia State University. Her husband, Jim and she were actively involved for many years in the Independent Insurance Agents of Georgia. Kathryn’s greatest enjoyments came from spending time with her children and grandchildren in her home at Lake Burton. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of Belmont Village-Buckhead and Homestead Hospice for the loving care they provided over the last several years. Further the family would like to thank her longtime Physician, Marc Seltman, for his extraordinary care he provided for many years. A Funeral Mass will be conducted on Monday, the 18th of April at ten o’clock in the morning at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. A brief reception will follow in McDonough Hall. The Rite of Committal will follow the reception at Arlington Memorial Park. Flowers are always appreciated however, for those who prefer, a memorial contribution may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society Chapter at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 4465 Northside Drive, Atlanta, GA 30327. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family Sunday from five o’clock in the afternoon until seven o’clock in the evening at H. M. Patterson & Son Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Road, NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328.
