Joyce G. Chapman, 94, of Duluth, GA, passed away peacefully on August 18th, 2022, at home surrounded by her family. She was born in Bath, New Hampshire on August 16, 1928, to Raymond Going and Bessie Poor. Joyce graduated from Morgan High School and attended Dekalb Community College. She was married to Burton H. Chapman, Jr. on September 5, 1948.
Joyce was a loving and active wife and mother. In her youth, she was a cheerleader, played field hockey, was captain of the basketball team, and was very involved in the drama club. Outside of school, she was an acrobatic dancer. During World War II, she contributed to the war effort by reporting as a plane spotter. Later, she was a bank teller and an active investor, as well as a supportive homemaker. She followed Burt’s career to Massachusetts, Texas and California before settling in Atlanta in 1969.
Joyce loved joining in games, completing crossword and Sudoku puzzles, drinking chocolate milkshakes with extra cherries, and getting into mischief with her daughters and beloved grandchildren. She had the spirit of an adventurer and traveled frequently, including trips to Greece with her husband, to Bora Bora, Fiji, and Alaska with her sister-in-law, England & several cruises with her daughter Kelly, and many days out on Lake Lanier with her family on their boat.
Joyce was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her brother Ron Going. She was survived by her daughters Stacey Zambetti (Gerard) and Kelly Zambetti (John), her grandchildren Shannon, Stephen, Christine, Michael (Carra), and Ashley, and her great granddaughter Gemma Emilia.
A funeral service will be held at Dunwoody United Methodist Chapel on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at Arlington Memorial Park. A reception will be held following the graveside service from 2:45 pm until 4:45 pm at Sandy Springs Chapel.
Joyce's beautiful smile and contagious laugh will be forever loved and missed.
