Johanna was born November 29, 1937, in Miami, Florida, the daughter of Theodore Vivian (T.V.) Moore Jr. and Jessie Smith McCoy.
Her husband, Hugh Clayton Dobbins Jr, predeceased her on September 23, 2009.
Johanna is survived by her sons Michael Lewis (Kay), Jon Lewis (Kim), and Scott Lewis (Elizabeth); grandchildren Andrew Lewis, Caroline Lewis, Sarah Scott Lewis, and Larson Lewis; step-grandchildren, step-greatgrandchildren, nieces and nephews, and her loving kitty Maddy.
Jo, as she was known among friends, attended The Cushman School and later was part of the first graduating class of North Miami High School, which is appropriately nicknamed the Pioneers. She played Basketball and Volleyball, was the class Treasurer, the head cheerleader, and voted Most Popular.
Jo was the Miami Boat Show queen of 1955. Her mother, Jessie, was Miss Florida in 1935 and her sister, June, was the 1962 Kentuckian Queen.
Jo’s love of travel started with a European tour with her grandmother when she was a young girl. She has since traveled to many places around the world. She especially loved going on cruises. Her last cruise was to the Bahamas with her three daughters-in-law just last year.
Jo married her high school sweetheart, Donald Lewis, shortly after high school. While Jo was busy raising her three boys, she was active in several Miami women’s clubs.
In 1966 she started work with Delta Air Lines in the reservation department. She later worked at a Delta division that would become Worldspan.
After her divorce, Jo moved to Atlanta in 1976 where she met her future husband, Hugh Dobbins. They married on February 18, 1978.
As a child her family would spend summers at their Smoky Mountain Lodge on Reems Creek Road in Weaverville, NC. Later, she and Hugh built a place in Highlands, NC where they enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was active with several Bridge card clubs and socializing with friends.
She loved chocolate, reading Kindle books, making up stories, and being the contrarian in arguments. She was an avid card player, especially Bridge. To say she was a character is an understatement. She left a lasting impression with everyone she met.
The family will receive friends Monday from 2-5 PM at H.M. Patterson & Son, 173 Allen Road NE, Sandy Springs. There will be a graveside service Tuesday at 11 AM in Westview Cemetery, 1680 Westview Drive SW, Atlanta, GA.
