Janet L. Rodeheaver, age 84, of Daytona Beach Shores, FL and Gainesville, FL passed away peacefully on Nov. 10. 2013. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, John D. Rodeheaver, Jr. She is survived by her two daughters, Karen Brannan (Art), Diane Griffin (Randy), five grandchildren Arthur (Anna), Daniel, Kelsey, Evan, and Bryce (Hailee) and 1 great granddaughter, Alayna. She was born on Nov. 29, 1928 in Philadelphia, PA. Her family moved to Miami Beach, FL in 1944. She graduated from Florida State University where she was a member of the FSU Flying High Circus and the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. Janet married John on November 25, 1953 and they moved to Gainesville, FL. She was a loyal Seminole fan during her 31 years as a dedicated Professor of Medical Technology at the University of Florida. In 1985 she was awarded the Morton Wolfson Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Quality of Student Life on Campus. When she retired from the University of Florida in 1989, Janet was named Assistant Professor Emeritus. She was instrumental in starting Kappa Alpha Theta’s Delta Theta Chapter at the University of Florida in the early 1960’s. She helped to get the Chapter House built and spent many years as the House Corporation Treasurer.
After retiring, Janet and John moved to Daytona Beach Shores. She stayed active in her community and was a member of All Saints Lutheran Church, the Halifax River Yacht Club, Pilot Club, New Horizons, and the Museum of Arts and Sciences.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in her memory to the Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation, 8740 Founders Row, Indianapolis, IN 46268.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
