Dorothy Hiawatha Gaudet was born to Richard Gaudet and Annie Adams on June 28, 1914 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her maternal grandfather was John Adams from Shriever La. who married Rose Thibideaux from an Indian reservation in Houma Louisiana. Her paternal grandparents were Emile John Gaudet Sr . and Mary Deslonde from St James Parish Louisiana.
She had one sibling, a brother Emile John Gaudet who preceded her in death .
She attended Lafon Elementary School , Xavier Prep High school and received her teachers certificate from Xavier University. On the 16th of September in 1936 she married Rodney Jones at Mount Zion Baptist in New Orleans and they resided in Kenner Louisiana.
She was a dedicated teacher at Washington Elementary school in Kenner Louisiana for 25 years educating 4th graders. During her time away from her students she enjoyed reading books and magazines and decorating but her main enjoyment came from sewing. She was a very talented seamstress sewing anything from dresses and pant suits to purses curtains and quilts. She also shared her talent with others and taught adult sewing classes in her Community.
She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church and within the church became a member of the Catholic Daughters and served in the Legion of Mary. She also joined with a group of friends to pray he Rosary.
She enjoyed socializing and became a member of The Elegant Ladies Social club in New Orleans. She participated with her club members in hosting events inviting family and friends and small gatherings with the club members for monthly meetings.
After Hurricane Katrina she relocated to Tuskegee Alabama along with her husband to reside with her daughter and son-in law. Her husband preceded her in death in 2007 after 70 years of marriage and a few years later she relocated again with her daughter to Lilburn Ga.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Ann Jones Harvey and son-in law Richard Harvey. Granddaughters Shawn Jones James (August), Ashley Chapple (Reginald), Grandsons Paul Harvey (Aquita), Howard Harvey (Alicia), Great granddaughters Amber Harvey, April Harvey, Taylor Harvey, Great grandsons Christian Harvey, James Chapple and Jason Chapple. A nephew Robert Franklin (Joyce) and close friends.
Mother “Mama Dot” was loved and cherished. We thank God for her , always kind , caring and committed to living out her faith in God.
