Donald Hoyt Hudgins

Donald Hoyt Hudgins, 72, passed away on December 18, 2014. Don grew up in the south Fulton community of Stonewall, GA, the son of Clyde and Marie Hudgins. He graduated from Campbell High School in Fairburn, GA and was a Vietnam veteran. Don held a masters degree in cinematography from Bob Jones University and was a pioneer in Georgia’s film industry—first as a cinematographer at Storer Studios then as a co-owner/partner of Cinetron Computer Systems. At Cinetron, Don led the production of animation and special effects for commercials, TV, and movies. Cinetron also invented the first computer-controlled animation equipment, which was awarded an Academy Award for Technical Achievement and became the industry standard for major studios such as Disney, Universal, and MGM. Don is survived by his wife of 46 years, Betty Wills Hudgins, his daughter Stephanie Hudgins Philippo, and his son-in-law Drew Philippo, all of Atlanta, GA, as well as his brother Dr. James L. Hudgins and wife Juanita of Columbia, SC and his sister JoAnn Bynum of Sharpsburg, GA. Don is also survived by a large family of in-laws, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins, all of whom he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Tommy, and his brother-in-law David Bynum. A memorial service will be held at 2 o’clock on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at H.M. Patterson & Son - Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Rd., Sandy Springs, GA 30328 with interment immediately following at Arlington Memorial Park. Family visitation and a reception will be held at the funeral home prior to the service beginning at 12 o’clock.
