Cynthia Jo was born September 20, 1946 in Sheboygan Wisconsin. Her parents were homemaker Marian Siefert Kuether and Carl Kuether, a salesperson. Cindy had a close-knit family of grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. She enjoyed a classic small town, post-World War II upbringing. She was once featured in a department store newspaper ad, perhaps initiating her love of shopping. Soon Carl's occupation took the baby boomer's family to New York. The family added a sister Marybeth in 1950. Next a move to Iowa and the arrival of a brother Jeff in 1958. Then on to suburban Chicago. Her small ranch home was just a mile from the first McDonalds, which may explain her fixation on Diet Coke! From there it was off to Purdue University for a sociology degree, a membership in the Alpha Chi Omega sorority and an engagement to a young Connecticut gentleman named David (“Dave”)Woodrow.
The marriage to David followed in 1969 in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin on a cold January day, followed by the couple escaping to Jamaica for their honeymoon. They returned to Purdue while Dave finished his masters degree, then they moved to Connecticut. Son David came along in January of 1974, and daughter Krissy followed in May of 1978. Dave’s job in New York City kept the family in the area until 1982, when they first moved to Atlanta and the Dunwoody area. After 2 years in Atlanta a fury of moves occurred, with 18 months in Portland, Oregon, followed by 4 years in Santa Barbara, California. The family settled back down in Dunwoody in January 1990, this time for good.
In the retirement years, travel with Dave and their friends became a top priority. Yearly beach trips saw Cindy sitting in the sand and in the sun, soaking up the rays. Countless trips to the wine countries of Napa, France and Italy were yearly highlights. For many years most of the month of February was spent in Naples, away from the cold and wind of Atlanta. There was even an adventurous trip to Australia and New Zealand. Unfortunately, the bucket list safari trip had to be cancelled when Cindy became ill.
Cindy was a doting and devoted grandmother. There was always something on the horizon that involved individual time with each grandkid, as well as group time were everyone was together. The yearly gingerbread house builds. Meticulously organized easter egg hunts. Halloween in her favorite witches’ hat. There were also the never-ending games of Skip-Bo around the dining room table, while the rest of the adults watched and smiled.
Aside from family and travel, tennis, shopping, and chicken wings were some of Cindy’s passions over the years. There was eventually a retirement from tennis, but shopping and wings with her friends continued for years and years. Cindy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, who always inquired about the recent event or milestone in someone’s life. She always wanted to make sure she was on top of the pulse of her family and friends.
Cindy passed away peacefully on the evening of March 10th. She passed surrounded by her loving family, Dave, David, and Krissy.
Cindy was predeceased by her parents, Carl and Marion. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, David Woodrow, her sister Mary (Steve) Smith, her brother Jeff (Peggy) Kuether, her son David (Alison) Woodrow, her daughter Krissy (Owen) Taylor, and grandchildren Sam & Natalie Woodrow, and Jackson & Katherine Taylor.
A memorial service is planned for 2:00 Friday, April 22nd at Dunwoody United Methodist Church, located at 1548 Mt. Vernon Rd, Dunwoody, GA 30338.
