Angela was born in Granite Falls, NC and was the daughter of the late Marjorie and Glen Cooke. She excelled at tree climbing as a tomboy and went on to be a drum majorette, basketball player and most notably beauty queen with a tap dancing talent, achieving second runner up at Miss North Carolina. After she graduated from Granite Falls High School in 1970, she went on to study special education at University of Western Carolina. Go Catamounts!
After graduating, she started her teaching career at Highlands Elementary School. It was there she realized her calling in life, to defend and improve the lives of all children through education and unconditional love. In 1978, Angela moved to Laramie, Wyoming where she taught high school and led the high school women’s Nordic ski team to state championships.
Angela’s long tenure at Woodward Academy began in 1985 after moving to Georgia. Throughout her 39 years as an English teacher as well as Individual Student Program leader and most recently Learning Support Program teacher, she helped thousands of students learn how to learn in their unique way and build the self-esteem needed to navigate life.
“I wouldn’t be the person I am today without you. You are the reason why I survived high school academically and physically and also allowed me to have confidence in being the learner and person that I am,” noted Woodward Academy student.
Through her relationship with John Cox, Angela found peace in her personal life. John and Angela recently celebrated their second wedding anniversary. Most notably, John and Angela shared a passion for golf and traveled from Scotland to Pebble Beach pursuing the game.
Angela is survived by her husband John Cox, daughter, son in-law, granddaughter and grandson, Ashley, Ed, Carys and Maxwell Pincott.
Services will be held at Holy Innocents’ Episcopal Church on Saturday, May 18th at 2 o’clock. The service will also be livestreamed.
