Thelma Irene Burke

BURKE, Thelma Irene (Embroult), 87, of Sandwich, MA passed away peacefully on August 6, 2024 with her family by her side. She was born in Sandwich to the late Louis and Ethel Embroult (pierce) on April 4, 1937.

Thelma grew up in Sandwich and graduated from Henry T Wing School. She retired from the Town of Sandwich in the accountants office and loved the challenge of making sure the books balanced down to the penny. She also loved playing cards with her friends and family. You could always stop by for a game of cribbage or canasta or just a cup of coffee. Her door was always open if you were in the area to stop by. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her sons: Wayne Burke (Celeste) of Sandwich, Timothy Burke (Christine) of Sandwich, her stepdaughters: Sheryl McMahon of Dennis, Kathleen Driscol (Bruce) of Centerville, her grandchildren: Anthony, Michael, Jeremy, Dana, Christopher O., Jacqueline, Jennifer, Nicholas, Brenden, and Christopher B. She is predeceased by her husband Richard McMahon, her son Glenn Burke, her stepdaughter Pam Rodriguez, her sister Merilyn Embroult Myers, and her first husband James Burke. She also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews, and great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Monday August 12th, 10am at Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 154 Route 6A, Sandwich, MA 02563. Burial will follow at North Harwich Cemetery, 610 Depot St, Harwich, MA 02645. Visitation will be held Sunday August 11th from 3-7pm at the Funeral home.
