Stephen D. Montalto, passed away at the age of 62, on December 17th, 2024, after a courageous battle with leukemia. Stephen was a devoted husband, father, brother, Uncle and friend who leaves behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and love.
Born and raised in Wellesley, MA, Stephen was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Mary T. Montalto. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary-Elizabeth Montalto, and their cherished daughters, Kerry and Samantha. He is also survived by his brother Robert Montalto, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will forever hold his memory in their hearts.
Stephen attended St. Paul Elementary School and graduated from Wellesley High School. He continued his education at Norwich University and UMASS Amherst, where he laid the foundation for a life of purpose and service.
He was a parishioner at Corpus Christi Parish, E. Sandwich, upon moving to the Cape in 2003. He dedicated over 20 years of service to the Barnstable County Sheriff's Office where his commitment to his work and community made a lasting impact. He was known for his caring nature, always willing to lend an ear or helping hand which earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues.
When not working, Stephen found joy in golfing, camping, and spending time with his family. The importance of family and friends was clear in his consistent presence at school sports and family events, where he made it a priority to support the children in his life, showing up time and time again to share in their victories and challenges. Whether enjoying a round of golf or gathered around a campfire, Stephen was happiest when surrounded by loved ones.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at lls.org in Stephen's memory.
Visitation hours will be held at Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 154 MA-6A, Sandwich, MA on Thursday, January 2nd from 3pm-7pm. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Corpus Christi Parish in E. Sandwich on Friday, January 3rd at 11am, immediately followed by a burial at Sandwich Town Cemetery.
