Richard Mason

Richard S. Mason of East Sandwich died on October 11th at age 71. He was the husband of Betsy (Lane) Mason to whom he was married for 30 years. He was the son of Richard J. Mason and Rose (Nardone) Mason. Rick attended Newton public schools and Northeastern University. He worked in Information Technology for the majority of his career. Dedicated to helping others, he was Chief Information Officer at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital and Mass Eye and Ear, as well as working at Mass General Hospital and Cape Cod Healthcare.

Rick was a gearhead at heart, who loved working on classic cars. He enjoyed football, having played semi-pro for the Eastern Football League. He loved hiking on Sandy Neck and Talbot’s Point with his golden retrievers. Among his other interests were playing the trumpet and bass, and home improvement projects. However, most importantly he was a dedicated family man.

In addition to his wife, Rick leaves his son Adam Mason, daughter Stephanie Ferla, her husband Andre, and grandsons Hunter and Ashton Ferla. He also leaves his sisters Christine Mason Kidd, Janet Rabbitt, Patricia Mason, Carla Mason McGrath, and Ann Taylor, as well as their spouses, nieces, nephews, and many cousins.

Visiting hours will be at Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home in Sandwich, MA, 154 RT. 6A, on October 29th from 2-5pm; Memorial services will be private.
