Mary R. Watters of Sandwich died Saturday, August 25th after battling a long illness. She was the (sweetheart and) wife of Carl Watters for 47 years. Born in Cambridge on August 11, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Bill and Mary (Mullaney) Sullivan.
Besides her husband, Mary is survived by her children Eric Watters of E. Haddam, CT, Scott Watters of Monument Beach, Lisa Vasile of Milford, and Debby Cook of Hadley, MA, and their families including 13 grandchildren, in-laws, nieces and nephews.
She graduated from Abington High School in 1962 and cherished her many close friendships with these classmates.
She worked as a Customer Service Representative and Teller at Plymouth Savings Bank in Sandwich for 15 years. She was an active member of Corpus Christi Parish where she gave her time to teaching CCD, driving and visiting shut-ins, the bereavement committee and Mary’s Closet thrift shop.
Volunteering at the Sandwich Food Pantry touched Mary deeply, especially their work with children.
She enjoyed golf and traveling to new places. She visited five of the seven continents and much of the United States. Mary and Carl lived 6 years in Taiwan where she learned to read and write Chinese and tutored English to local school children and adults.
She appreciated the love of family, life and adventure. She always loved the simple things in life, gorgeous clouds, sunsets, a single rose and the laughter of a child. Mary was known for her simple elegance.
Her family is very grateful for the care she received from the loving and caring staff at Bourne Manor Extended Care and Rehabilitation facility.
The family has planned an open Celebration of Life at Sandwich Hollows Golf Course, 1 Round Hill Rd, East Sandwich on September 8th from 2-6pm.
Gifts in Mary’s memory may be donated to the Sandwich Food Pantry, 331 Cotuit Rd, Sandwich, MA 02563.
