John Cletus Gorton passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at The Woodlands in Brewster, Massachusetts. John was born in Yonkers, New York on December 29, 1923, son of the late John and Agnes (McCarthy). He was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Blanche (Bailey) Gorton in 2013.
John attended Columbia University where he achieved a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. John also proudly served in the United States Army during World War II, earning the Asiatic Campaign Medal, Good Conduct medal, World War II Victory medal and the American Campaign medal as a member of the 3105th Signal Service Battalion. John was a career Licensed Civil Engineer, raising his family in Cortlandt Manor, NY. John retired in 1983 from the Xerox Corporation and moved to Sandwich with his wife Blanche.
John leaves his son, John C. Gorton Jr. of Grand Island, NY; his son Robert Gorton and his wife Peggy of East Sandwich, MA and his son Peter Gorton of Williamsville, NY, as well as 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Corpus Christi Church, 324 Quaker Meeting House Rd, East Sandwich, MA 02537 on Friday, November 2 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that you donate to Hope Hospice, 765 Attucks Lane Hyannis, MA 02601 or the charity of your choice.
