Born on May 8, 1935, in Boston, Massachusetts, Joanne was the second daughter of James M. Campbell and Olive M. (Marks) Campbell. She grew up in Weymouth, attending Sacred Heart School and later Quincy City Hospital School of Nursing. She married George R. Leary in 1955, and became the proud mother of six children. An avid traveler later in life, Joanne’s journeys took her to six different continents. Her hobbies and passions included reading, Nantucket basket weaving, the beach and all things Provincetown, her childhood summer home. Her proudest role was of wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a communicant of Corpus Christi Church in East Sandwich.
Joanne was predeceased by her infant son, Richard, her husband, George R. Leary, and her brothers Thomas A. Campbell and James P. Campbell. She is survived by her daughter Mary Beth Deehan of Sandwich and her daughter Lucy; daughter Patricia Leary of Sandwich and her daughter Elizabeth Burns; son Kevin Leary and his wife Lorna of Dedham and their daughter Melissa; son Mark Leary of Missouri and his daughters Erin Riquelme (and husband Cesar) and Brenna; and her daughter Maura Leary Morahan and her husband John and their sons, Will, Patrick and Timothy. She is also survived by her great grandchildren Alana, Mia and Nicholas, her sister Dorothy M. Lombardi of Yarmouthport, her brother Edward W. Campbell and his wife Susan of Barnstable and many nieces and nephews.
Joanne’s life will be celebrated in a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, April 15, 2016 at 10:30 am, Corpus Christi Church, East Sandwich, Massachusetts. Burial will be at Sandwich Town Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hope Hospice, 765 Attucks Lane, Hyannis, MA 02601.
