Carol Ann Rand

Carol (Horigan) Rand passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 4th, surrounded by the love and warmth of her family. Carol was born to Paul and Ruth Horigan in Boston, MA, on December 28, 1943. She grew up enjoying Boston and Quincy Harbors, boating, and learning to water ski with her six brothers and sisters. Carol loved flying high on the top of her family's pyramid as they water-skied around the harbor. She also enjoyed picnics with her family on Thompson Island.

Growing up, Carol loved the beach and the sunshine. Carol graduated from North Quincy High School in 1960 and proudly competed in the Miss Quincy Swimsuit Competition after graduation, winning the coveted crown. Tortola and East Sandwich were her favorite places to enjoy the sand and sun.

In 1980, Carol moved to Sandwich to raise her three boys. She was a devoted mother, her love for her family shining through in every moment she spent with them. Carol supported her family by working as a bookkeeper at the Cape Heritage and Cape Regency Long-Term Care Facilities. In 1998, she met the love of her life, Bill Rand. The two enjoyed traveling, golfing, and preparing delicious meals for family and friends.

Carol found immense joy in her hobbies and interests. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, sharing her baking talents while making Christmas cookies and her famous chocolate cream pie. Over the years, Carol loved walking at the canal with her beloved dog, Maggie. She developed a love of bird watching and loved to visit the ospreys behind the Henry T. Wing School.

Carol was predeceased by her parents, her sisters Joanie Horigan and Marie (Horigan) Viola, her brother Bobby Horigan, and her beloved husband, Bill Rand.

Her family will miss her infectious laughter and contagious smile. She will be missed by all those who loved her so dearly. She is survived by her son Tim Cavanaugh, son Sean Cavanaugh and wife Michelle Cavanaugh, son Robert Cavanaugh and wife Christine Cavanaugh, her beloved granddaughters Amanda Cavanaugh, Cailey Russel, Kelly Cavanaugh, Alexandra Cavanaugh, Kathryn Cavanaugh, Julia Cavanaugh, and Riley Cavanaugh, brother Paul Horigan, brother Jamie Horigan, sister Ruth Morocco, and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Corpus Christi Parish, 326 Quaker Meeting House Road, in East Sandwich, at 11:00 a.m. on Friday August 9th. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow the service at the Sagamore Inn, Route 6A, Sagamore.
