Barbara was born in Newark, New Jersey on August 11, 1934, the daughter of Fred and Catherine, and the eldest of four sisters. Growing up playing baseball with friends in the neighborhood and enjoying simple pleasures like getting a shard of ice on a hot day from the back of the ice man's horse drawn cart.
She survived the Great Depression and witnessed the struggles and camaraderie of our nation during World War II, often sharing a recollection of the day the war ended, and the parade of elated people that formed downtown. Summers included many visits to the Jersey Shore, and trips to New York to see Broadway shows with her sisters and cousin.
Married in 1956, the honeymoon on Cape Cod led to the purchase of land and the building of a summer home in East Sandwich. Raising 6 children, driving from New Jersey in a VW Bus, the summers at the beach with swimming lessons and friends were wonderful times. Barbara became friends with other parents, playing Cribbage on a blanket while the children played and swam at the beach. A fond memory was ice cream at Frannie and George's in Sandwich, followed by watching the sunset on the jetties at Town Neck.

She was an active member of the Appalachian Mountain Club, and took many biking and camping trips to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket, New Hampshire and the coast of Maine.
In the 1970's the family moved to Michigan where Barbara enjoyed living on a farm raising horses, and planting a two acre garden. Her love of gardening continued when she moved to Cape Cod in 1978, filling her yard with all varieties of vegetables and flowers.
A life-long Catholic, Barbara was an active member of Our Lady of Victory Parish, attending Residents Encounter Christ meetings, driving friends to the monthly Luncheon at the parish hall, and assisting women in need of help at St. Clare's House in Hyannis. She was a Eucharistic minister and member of the choir at Our Lady of Hope, in West Barnstable, and was often found at coffee and donuts after Mass visiting with friends. Barbara spent an hour weekly at the Corpus Christi Church's Adoration Chapel.
An avid reader, Barbara was a member of the Sandwich Library Book Club. Her collection included many Art books, and she visited museums as part of attending Cape Cod Community College, where she received an Associates in Arts Degree.
Her interest in travel took her to Rome, Assisi, and Venice, Alaska, Florida, Washington D.C., The Grand Canyon, Mackinaw Island, and Prince Edward Island, as well as many trips to the New Jersey Shore to visit friends and Family.
Music was a large part of Barbara's life, she joined the Cape Cod Chorale, performing in many concerts and traveled to England and Vienna to sing on tour. As a member of the New Cape Singers she performed many concerts on Cape Cod, including Handel's Hallelujah Chorus. Having played flute in high school, Barbara picked up the instrument after a 40 year hiatus, and played for two decades with the New Horizons Band.
