Patrick Pollock, a longtime resident of San Rafael and member of the Marin County Office of Education and Personnel Commission died on March 16, 2012 at the age of 88. Born in San Francisco in 1924, Mr. Pollock joined the Army in the middle of WW II, when he was a 20-year-old Bay Area college student. He served with the 821st Tank Destroyer Battalion, which saw action in the Battle of the Bulge. Returning to the Bay Area, Mr. Pollock began a career in the transportation industry and as a member and past president of the Pacific Transportation Association, worked to increase public understanding and appreciation of transportation issues. Many in Marin knew Mr. Pollock and appreciated his intelligence and laid-back manner because of his participation in many clubs and social organizations, among them the Elks Lodge of San Rafael, the American Legion, the Marin Rod and Gun Club, and the San Rafael Goldenaires. He served for many years on the board of the directors of the Northern California SPCA, which made him an honorary life member. He was also active in Marin schools, and served since 1975 on the Personnel Commission of the County Office of Education. He was preceded in death by his wife of many years, Doris. He will be keenly missed by his faithful companion of more than three years, Maria Miura of San Rafael, and by his lifelong friend James Ogle of Brentwood. Memorial services are scheduled for Friday March 30 at 2 p.m. at Keaton’s Mortuary Chapel, 1022 E. Street, San Rafael, and will be followed by a ceremony at the Elks Lodge in San Rafael on a date to be determined. Other memorial ceremonies at a later date are also planned at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery.
