Mary Frances Sinclair, née Edwards, was born in Moate, County Westmeath, Ireland in 1935, and peacefully passed away on February 4, 2024, in Greenbrae, California. Her kindness, joy, and boundless energy touched the lives of many during her remarkable journey.
She dedicated more than 35 years of her life to serving others as a Registered Nurse, first in England, then New York, and finally at Kaiser Hospitals in San Francisco and San Rafael, California. She made lifelong friends through her time at Kaiser and loved seeing them at reunions and other events following her retirement.
Mary met her beloved Scottish husband Donald in San Francisco and they shared 36 happy years of marriage until his death in 2003. Mary and Don were known for the backyard parties at their home in San Rafael and enjoyed attending as many Irish and Scottish events as possible throughout the years.
Mary was a loving mother to her son Andrew and daughter Maureen, and adoring grandmother to her three grandsons. Her Irish upbringing was a source of pride, and she instilled a love of Ireland in her children, visiting with them numerous times. Mary's nurturing spirit extended beyond her family, as she built lasting connections with friends around the world, visiting more than twenty-five countries in her lifetime and sending hundreds of Christmas cards annually to ensure friends knew she was thinking of them. She never met a stranger and delighted in welcoming people into her large circle of friends. In her later years, she played in numerous bridge groups, belonged to several clubs, and had weekly happy hours with a fun-loving group of widows.
Mary's legacy is one of love and selflessness. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her. As we mourn her passing, let us also celebrate the life of a remarkable woman who made the world brighter with her presence.
Mary is survived by her children, Andrew (Amy) and Maureen (Brad), grandchildren Brendan, Ryan, and Colin, sisters Peggy, Carmel, and Pauline (Alan), brother John (Anne), sister-in-law Veronica, brother-in-law Dave, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in Mary's name to a charity of your choice or that you buy a nice bottle of wine and have a drink in her honor.
A memorial service to honor Mary's life will be held at the Loch Lomond Yacht Club, 95 Loch Lomond Drive, San Rafael, CA 94901, from 1-5pm on Friday, February 16.
