Keith Burke passed away peacefully on February 6, 2023 at the age of 84. He was born in Washington, DC to the late Harold F. Burke and Jean F. Burke. Keith had 3 children: Lynn, Ken, and Joe. He is survived by his sons Ken and Joe.
Keith attained a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from Johns Hopkins University and a master’s degree in mathematical statistics from George Washington University. His greatest joys in life were appreciating a taut game of baseball, football, or lacrosse, dominating a room full of bridge players, enjoying classical music, working out, eating simple healthy meals and using his deep analytical prowess to solve problems with the aid of statistical analysis, which he did for the United States Postal Service from the 1960’s until his retirement at the end of 1992.
Keith had an unusually adept mind in the areas of logical deduction. He could remember every card played in a game of bridge or hearts, every one of his favorite players’ statistics, and how long it took him to complete every Washington Post crossword puzzle he had solved. He could uncannily present an astute observation via logical deductions opaque to most onlookers. One of the most consistent people you could ever meet, Keith’s ability to maintain good habits for decades on end enabled him to merrily pursue a peaceful life, the proverbial “good life”. His gentle demeanor belied his playful spirit and underscored his unwavering love for his children. From the first time he played at the ballyard with his childhood friends until the very end, Keith’s greatest passion in life remained: baseball!
A memorial ceremony, including prayers led by the church’s pastor will be held on Saturday February 18th at 1P at the cemetery adjoining the Providence United Methodist Church in Monrovia, MD. Please see Joe for details if you don’t have them.
The family request that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Keith’s name to Shriners Hospital for Children, PO Box 1525, Ranson, WV 25438-0018. Their number is 888-337-0080. https://donate.lovetotherescue.org
