Dan died peacefully on June 22nd at Marin General Hospital surrounded by his loving family due to heart failure. Dan was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. He is preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Rosemary, his wife, Joan, and brother, Mike. He is survived by his 3 children: Danny (Sue), Patty Brusati (Mike) and Pam Ross (Mark) and 7 adoring grandchildren: Michael, Jimmy, Joe, Tom, Kelsey, Jordan and Carly.
Dan was born in 1934 in San Francisco. He attended St. Vincent de Paul grammar school, St. Ignatius High School and University of San Francisco. Dan was a talented basketball player earning such honors as All City and Most Outstanding Player in his league. He furthered his basketball prowess at USF for one year playing with such basketball greats as Bill Russell and many other talented basketball players of that era. Dan met the love of his life, Joan McInnis, when he was 15 and Joan, 13. Nine years later they married on April 12, 1958 at St. Agnes Church. They lived in Los Angeles and San Francisco in the early years of their marriage then settling permanently in their beloved neighborhood of Northbridge in San Rafael. Dan built a successful career in Real Estate spanning over 50 years, owning his own business, Powers and Associates, on Irving St. for over 30 years. Dan served as a Director on the Board of Realtors for several years and was well respected in the Real Estate community. He was still working 5 days a week up until May of this year. Dan loved his Catholic faith. He and Joan were active members of Blessed Sacrament Parish. He loved volunteering as a CYO basketball coach. He had many successful years coaching CYO and Recreation league teams. Dan was a sports fanatic. He procured tickets to as many professional and college team games as possible, hence earning the nickname Mr. Tickets. He was a 49er faithful through and through even weathering their worst seasons. Dan loved his family vacations especially those to Lake Tahoe, Aptos and Stinson Beach. He was the original “Clark Griswold”, going out of his way to visit obscure tourist spots and never missing a souvenir shop along the way. Dan was most passionate about his kids and grandkids. Nothing got in the way of his attending their sporting events and school activities. Dan was blessed with many lifelong friendships, too many to name, that he held very dear to his heart. His life was filled with lots of love, laughter and plenty of Negronis!! Thanks Dad for the amazing memories. We will cherish them forever. We love you Papa.
