November 29, 1925 - June 18, 2013
Betty Haasis passed away peacefully at Alma Via San Rafael. She is survived by her daughter Carol Teller, son-in-law Rick Teller, and grandchildren Ben, Christina and Catherine who will all miss her dearly. Betty grew up in Arenzville and Springfield, Illinois. After graduating from business college, she worked for Illinois Central Railroad where she met her future husband, Louis Haasis. Having worked for a transportation company, it was only natural that their lives would involve traveling the world as part of Lou’s role in the U.S. Army Transportation Corps. Betty and Lou lived in Yokohama, Japan; Seaside and Fort Ord, California; Nancy and Metz, France; Omaha, Nebraska; Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and finally settled in Denver, Colorado for the next chapter of their lives. A common thread through all of Betty’s travels was her commitment to volunteer work -- from Brownie leader, to Girl Scout leader, and as a Red Cross Gray Lady. In Denver, Betty spent 25 years as an administrative assistant for a printing company and retired in 1985. After Lou’s passing, Betty headed west to join her daughter and family in Marin County, settling in Terra Linda in 1997. She quickly established a network of friends through the YMCA and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, as well as through volunteer work at Kaiser San Rafael. In 2006, Betty was one of the founding residents of Alma Via San Rafael. Betty will be buried next to her husband at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado. A memorial service will be held at Alma Via on July 11 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to her preferred charity, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society at http://www.lls.org/.
