Winifred Elizabeth Lewis

Winifred (Winnie) E. Lewis passed away peacefully on April 18th at the age of 101. She goes to join her parents, Herbert and Theresa Tattersall; her four siblings, Hope, Dora, Noelle, and Jack; and her husband, Lt. Col. James (Jim) Lewis. Born in Apia, Western Samoa, she completed her education in Auckland, New Zealand. While working as a clerk typist for the U.S. Army Air Force in Brisbane, Australia, she volunteered to join a group going to work in Manila in the Philippines. There, she met and married her husband Jim, then serving as a Lt. with the USAAF. They settled in San Jose where Winnie would become the matriarch of a beautiful family who admired her fierce determination, incredible wit, and unconditional love. She will be sorely missed by her three children; Patricia Monaghan, Arlene Dawes (her partner, Paul), and Brian Lewis (Colleen); by her seven grandchildren, as well as her many great grandchildren, friends and loved ones.

A celebration of life will be held on June 18th, 2024 at 10 a.m. at the Oak Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Park Drawing Room Chapel in San Jose. Burial to follow at 11:15.
