Dec. 5, 1956 – Apr. 13, 2013
San Jose, CA
On April 13, 2013 Mike Quinn passed away suddenly while doing what he loved most – working on a project at the home he shared with his beloved wife, Lisa. He had spent the morning cheering on grandson Michael and his team at a tee ball game.
Mike was raised in Santa Clara, CA where he graduated from Wilcox High School (Class of 1975). Growing up, he was a creative and persistent child who wasn’t afraid to dream big. He displayed a talent in baseball, which carried him all the way to the Little League World Series in 1969. While in Washington, D.C. celebrating his team’s accomplishment, Mike developed an appreciation for history and thereafter could often be found reading history books. He had a keen interest in fixing things and in cars, two passions that would later combine as he rebuilt classic cars with his children at his side.
Family meant more to Mike than anything. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. To them he was a caretaker, a counselor, and a friend. His children knew they could always count on him to lend an ear – or a hand – whenever one was needed. His precious free time was filled with travels, gatherings at the lake, or simply wrestling on the floor.
From his father Dave Quinn, Mike learned the value of hard work and a passion for building things, both qualities that served him well in the transportation and logistics field. Mike began his career at 3-Way Vanlines in 1976, working alongside his father. It was there that he met future business partners John “Johnny” Migliozzi and Shelly Gipson. In 1988, Mike and his father started Technology Transit Systems and embarked on the path to becoming an industry leader in specialized transportation. And in 1991, Mike co-founded Legacy Transportation Services in San Jose, CA.
He was an energetic and innovative leader who took a personal interest in his employees and strove to deliver the highest level of excellence to customers. But he will be remembered most for his caring nature, great sense of humor, and desire to make things better. He will be greatly missed by his employees, partners, colleagues, family and friends.
Mike is survived by his loving wife Lisa, his children Michelle Placencia and son-in-law Danny, Kevin Quinn and fiancée Chanel Byron, Christian and Cole Cusella, and Danielle Quinn; mother Darlene Quinnn, brother Bruce Quinn and sister-in-law Julie, sister Lisa Trittin and brother-in-law John, and his treasured grandchildren Michael and Emma Placencia.
Viewing will only be held at the Lima Family Erickson Memorial Chapel on Friday, April 26 from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. to allow friends and loved ones to say their final goodbyes. The chapel is located at 710 Willow Street, San Jose, CA 95125. In accordance with his wishes, Mike will be cremated.
A celebration of Mike’s life will be held on Saturday, April 27 beginning at 3:30 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency located at 5101 Great America Parkway, Santa Clara, CA 95054.
