Mary Louise Alexander was born Mary Louise Collins in Easton, PA. She was the youngest of seven children born to Philip and Laura Collins.. As a child, she loved to read, play paper dolls, and later swim, dance and play tennis. After high school, Mary worked at the Five and Dime to save enough money to go to nursing school where she trained as a nurse at Flower Fifth Avenue Hospital in New York City.
When WW II was pending, Mary and her best friend, Johnnie, volunteered to join the army and were sent to Ft. Benning, Georgia, serving as registered nurses. There was a large hospital on base, many troops, and a great social life. It was at one of the dances there that Mary met her future husband, Mark J Alexander. They were married in 1942 before Mark was shipped off to war.
Mark and Mary had three children. They were married 62 years. Mary stayed home and was an excellent mother and a great wife. Mary was always kind to people, believed in her family and friends, and was a great example of how to live life well.
Mary is survived by her 3 children, 8 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. Children: Mary Jo Sparry, Mark Alexander (Kim) and Don Alexander ( Barbara). Grandchildren: John Sparry (Kelly) , Michael Sparry, Mike Mayes (Susana), Krissie Brown, Leigh Alexander, Nicholas Alexander, David Alexander (Rebecca) and Jeni Smith (Shawn). Great grandchildren: Faith Brown, Serenity Brown, Daniella Sparry, Michaela Sparry, Steele Smith, Rocky Smith, Ziva Smith, Emily Alexander, Lucy Alexander and Alyssa Mayes. Mary will be missed greatly.
Services to be held at Oak Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Park - Chapel of the Roses - 300 Curtner Ave San Jose Ca. Funeral Service 11:00 am Tuesday January 24.
