John Stephen Suits was the fourth child of Captain Harlan Eugene Suits and Rosa Mae Suits. He was born at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio on April 26, 1962. He was welcomed home a few days later by his two older sisters and older brother. They absolutely adored him and loved holding him and playing with him and tickling him, making him laugh and giggle. He was a very happy child.
He was about four months old when the family was transferred to Champaign, Illinois. When John learned to walk, one of his favorite pastimes was going out to the flower bed and smelling all the flowers. That is perhaps what led to his lifelong love of gardening. He grew many vegetables and fruit trees. He even developed a small patio vegetable garden for his sister who lived in a single apartment, and air- grafted many fig trees which he gave away to his grateful family members, friends, and coworkers.
When he was four, the family moved to Maelstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls, Montana. John didn’t remember much of that experience but he spent a lot of his time there taking walks with his mother - which was no easy task in the -20° weather!
His family then relocated again to Dayton, Ohio, where he spent most of his childhood. He had many friends, both in Ohio and later in Sunnyvale, California, where they moved in 1977.
John was raised in a Christian family, attending Methodist, Baptist, and Presbyterian churches as they moved to different Air Force bases around the country. His relationship with the Lord became more and more important throughout his life as he grew in Biblical wisdom and grew closer to his Savior.
He loved art, classical and sacred music, and the outdoors - including butterfly collecting, astronomy, and hiking.
John graduated from Homestead high school in Sunnyvale California in 1980. Then then studied at Cal Poly SLO & San Jose State until he found his niche in Electronic Circuit Mask Design.
He liked his job very much. He has been working as an electronic board layout designer for 27 years. First at National Semiconductor then Linear Technology Corporation. In 2016, Linear Technology was bought by Analog Devices Incorporated.
He met Lisa at one of the biking events organized by Equally Yoked Christian dating sometime in May 2003. On Easter Sunday 2004, he proposed to her inside the car and then married her on November 6, 2004.
He had never traveled to foreign countries before he was married. That changed after he married Lisa. The farthest south he has ever been is Indonesia which is below the equator and he was proud of that. He has been to Iceland, which is the farthest north. The most memorable trip was when the couple went to Krakatoa in Indonesia. A few days after that the Krakatoa spewed ashes and rocks!
He liked outdoor activities, hiking, camping, hunting. He was able to go with his hunting buddies for a few times last year. He had never been able to get any big animals just pheasants and squirrels.
He planted a lot of fruit trees in their small backyard and also liked to garden. He shared the fruits from the trees with neighbors, co-workers, church people. He was a gentle, patient and kind man. He will be missed by many.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Lisa Surjadi Suits; and his three siblings Paula Jean Suits, Betsy Suits Brundin, and Harlan Eugene Suits Jr.
If you want to give any donations to honor his memory, please give it to The American Cancer Society.
