Born on September 8. 1940 in Streator, Illinois, Jan was a daughter of Irving and Anna (nee Yurek, Sirotnak, Yurch) Baumann. She attended the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois, and was a dedicated teacher to many children during her teaching career. For many years she taught children with special needs. She was a doll collector, and especially loved her Alice in Wonderland collection. She had a wide variety of collections. Her hobby was creating miniature houses and she was a member of the National association of Miniature Enthusiasts. Jan travelled to every continent in the world except Antarctica.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents and the love of her life, husband Richard (“Dick”) Henderson. They married in February, 1974. Her step-daughter (Mary Henderson), her brother and sister-in-law Marvin and Kay Baumann; and her sister and brother-in-law Dorothy (Vanko) Pointer (nee Baumann) and Michael Vanko also preceded her in death.
She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Donald and Teresa Baumann; sister Arline O’Connell (nee Baumann) and George O’Connell (deceased); sister Betty (Elizabeth) Kollar (nee Baumann) and Albert Kollar (deceased). She is also survived by her step-children, Kathy, Bill, and Cindy and well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held in San Jose, California, and she will be buried next to her husband Richard.
