Higo H. Harada, longtime resident of San Jose, passed away peacefully at home on January 30, 2021. He was the youngest of three born to Iitsu Harada and Keiko Harada in California. Higo is preceded in death by his older sisters, Emiko and Toshiko.
Higo was raised in California and received a Master’s in Music Composition and Conducting at Cleveland Institute in Ohio. He was awarded 2 prestigious Fellowships – once in Paris and also a Fellowship at the American Academy of Rome (only 2 Americans per year are awarded this high honor). He later became a Music Professor at Santa Barbara and then at San Jose State for decades. He and his wife had two daughters, Yumiko Harada Goody and Kyoko Harada Dole, whom they raised in San Jose. (His elder daughter, Yumiko Harada Goody preceded him in death in 2011. His wife, Noriko Harada, preceded him in death on February 29, 2020).
Higo is survived by his youngest daughter, Kyoko Harada Dole and Kyoko’s husband, Adam Dole, Yumiko’s husband, Grey Goody, and his grandchildren by (Yumiko and Grey Goody). Maya Goody and Lucas Goody.
Higo will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Oak Hill Memorial Park in San Jose.
