Guadalupe was born at the family ranch, La Trinidad, on December 29, 1928, in Nuevo Leon, Mexico. The daughter of the late Eudoxio Garcia Tovar and Maria de los Angeles Rodriguez was a proud descendant of Cuidad Mier and Camargo, the founders of the San Diego de Arriba y San Diego de Abajo land ranch.
Courageously, Lupe left her family farm in Mexico in the 1950's for Loredo, Texas. Her journey continued as she bravely moved to Chicago, where she met her husband, Juan Lopez, from San Juan de los Lagos, Mexico. Together, they pursued their American dream, eventually moving to California to start a family. They settled in East San Jose, planted roots, bought their first home, and proudly became American citizens.
Lupe embodied a strong work ethic and love for her family, demonstrating that anything is possible with her devout faith. She joined the workforce at Del Monte's Cannery and later worked at Olinder School while her children attended. However, her most cherished roles were those of a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a grandmother.
In her final years, she found joy in visiting her son's restaurant daily with her caretaker, Maria, where the staff embraced her and affectionately called her, “Lupita”. She departed peacefully, surrounded by music, prayer, her children, and grandchildren.
She is now reunited in heaven with her husband, parents, brothers, and sisters: Trinidad Garcia, Ventura Garcia, Fernando Garcia, Maria Rodriguez, Hortencia Ybanas, Maria Garcia, Octavio Garcia, Praxedis Arreola, and Esther Rothrock.
She is survived by her siblings, Elizardo Garcia, Carlota Lieck, and Otilia Azevedo; her children, John Lopez (Jo) and Jacqueline Flores (Saul); and her grandchildren, Jonathon (Cera), Justyn, Jo Isabella, Saul Jr., and Gianna Jacqueline.
We want to extend our deepest gratitude to those who cared for our mother, especially to Maria Romero, her dedicated and loving full-time caretaker. We are also thankful for Justyn, Abel, Mirna, and Suzie, who cared for our mom over the years. Their support and dedication will never be forgotten.
