Berty Tasman was called home to the Lord on Good Friday, March 25, 2016. Berty was born in Jakarta, Indonesia to Thio Tjeng Hay and Sarah Budiman on October 16, 1927. She was married to the late Theodorus Sidartawan in 1956 and had two daughters. Her eldest, Esther, preceded her in death two years ago. Berty is survived by her sisters Bersy and Bertin, brothers Elias and Elifas, daughter Rini, son-in-laws Pris and James, and grandchildren Luqman, Jordan, Amanda, and Jonathan. Berty came to know Christ in Indonesia, where she soon became a beloved member of the church of Santapan Rohani Indonesia. Since then, she always put God above all else. One of her favorite things was to sing in the choir because of her love for music. After spending most of her life in Jakarta, she moved to live with Rini in San Jose, California where she regularly attended Indonesian Evangelical Church. In her 8 months here she volunteered every Thursday for Kids Club, a Christian after-school program, at Williams Elementary School where her grandchildren previously attended. She was known as ‘Oma’, a term of endearment for ‘Grandma’ in Dutch. She also loved to watch and support her daughter’s tennis team, of which she was named honorary team mom. Although she was in the process to become a permanent resident of the United States, she has now become an eternal resident in heaven.
