February 28, 1931 - November 10, 2017
Guido George Baffico passed away on November 10, 2017 at the age of 86 surrounded by his beloved wife, Elide, his adored daughter, Dorothea, his cherished grandson Massimo and his devoted son-in-law Kevin. He was the soul and foundation of our family.
Guido was born in San Francisco on February 28, 1931 to his loving parents Giovanni and Maria Baffico. His family moved back to Italy when he was a few years old and he grew up in Sestri Levante, Genova. At the age of 18 he was drafted in the United States Army and served in the Korean War. After the war he returned to San Francisco and met the love of his life, Elide Solari at a Fugazi Hall dance in North Beach. They married in July 1963 and celebrated 54 loving years this past July. They were blessed with their only child, Dorothea in September 1964.
Guido’s most important priority throughout his life was always his family. He was happiest when we were all together. From our trips to Italy to the many wonderful summers in Sonoma, he and Elide always planned trips and gatherings that bonded our family closer. He never missed a game of his grandson’s when he was growing up. And was always there whenever his family needed him. He will always be remembered for his wonderful and sneaky smile, his delicious barbecues and his manhattans. He gave so much of himself to his family: his time, his love, his knowledge and advice. He will be deeply missed.
Guido’s family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the VA Medical Center especially Dr. Arnaldo Moreno, who he considered a friend, and his home based primary nurse practitioner, Karen Schreier. They provided him with amazing medical care, which allowed Guido to continue living at home. We also want to thank his caring and dedicated caregivers: Billy, Sofranio, Ferdie and Terry. They took wonderful care of Guido and made his last three years comfortable and kept his spirits up.
He is survived in Italy by his dear cousins Piero & Agnese Gianelli and their children Paolo and Chiara (husband, Alberto and son, Davide); Giuseppe Mericiari and his children Diego and Alessandra (husband, Roberto and sons Lorenzo and Manuele).
Private family services were held. In lieu of flowers, donations in Guido’s memory can be made to the San Francisco VA Medical Center’s Geriatrics and Extended Care Services Program. Donations may be mailed to SF VA Medical Center, 4150 Clement Street (Mail Code 135), San Francisco, Ca. 94121
