He is also survived by his two brothers Dr. John Bradley (Linda) of San Diego, CA, and Dr. Thomas Bradley (Annie) of Carmel, CA, and six nieces and nephews. The son of Dr. William G. Bradley, Sr. and Shirley Ann Premack, Bill was born in Los Angeles, California, on July 30, 1948. A self-proclaimed Air Force brat, he lived in many places both within the United States and abroad. Known for his exuberant personality and strong work ethic, he became an Eagle Scout at 13 and was Senior Class President of his high school class in Bitberg, Germany. Bill earned his bachelor's degree from the California Institute of Technology, and his doctorate from Princeton, both in chemical engineering. He completed his medical degree and radiology training at the University of California, San Francisco. While at UCSF his work focused on translating the complex physics of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) for other physicians. A distinguished Professor Emeritus at University of California, San Diego School of Medicine, he co-edited Magnetic Resonance Imaging, the seminal text in the field of MRI, and published over 200 papers, 54 chapters and 20 additional textbooks. As Professor and Chair of the Department of Radiology at UCSD from 2002-2015, he is credited with building a formidable research program. He was especially proud of his role in educating and mentoring hundreds of radiology residents and fellows. Highly recognized for his contributions to MRI research and practice, Dr. Bradley was also a fervent leader in organized radiology. He was awarded the gold medals of the Radiological Society of North America, The American College of Radiology, The International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, the American Roentgen Ray Society and the Association of University Radiologists. While earning these distinguished accolades, Bill always recognized others who had contributed to his success. When accepting one such award Bill stated, "I am truly honored by this award, yet fully cognizant that whatever contributions I made were always part of a team effortwhether it was my family, my partners or my fellows." A memorial service is planned for January 21, 2018, at 2pm at Scripps Seaside Forum, La Jolla, CA. In lieu of flowers, the Bradley family requests that donations may be made to the Radiological Society of North America Research and Education Foundation.
