Theng was born in Pak Kha, Laos on December 7, 1962, the first-born child to Chia Thong and Chylee Moua. At 14, he immigrated to the United States as a refugee. As the oldest of 8, Theng was more than a big brother. He was a guiding figure, a protector, a support system, and a role model to his siblings. He helped them navigate through life’s challenges and served as the foundation for his family.
Theng earned a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering in 1985 at San Diego State University followed by a master's degree in Software Engineering in 2001 from the Naval Postgraduate School. He built a successful career as the Program Manager for Engineering under the U.S. Department of Defense. He retired in 2021 at 59 years old.
Theng was a world traveler, foodie, talented musician, master fisherman, and soccer player. He spent most of his days on long outdoor walks, jamming in his studio, and planning his next trip. He was an inspiration, living life to the fullest and treating each day as a new opportunity.
Although Theng left too soon, his character and his passion lives on in his children. His love of music remains strong in his sons Thomas and Tyler. His love of travel can be seen in his daughters Silver, Macy, Cassie, and Jeanie. His sharp mind, quick wit, and infectious smile has been passed down to his sons Theodore and Timothy. And of course, his taste for good food is found in all of his children.
Theng will be reunited with his beloved wife Padouachy Lee. He is survived by his 8 children Silver, Macy, Thomas, Cassie, Jeanie, Tyler, Theodore, and Timothy, his 3 grandchildren Maxwell, Chidozie Jr., and Chidera, his parents, Chia Thong Moua and Chylee, and his 7 siblings, Phoua, Neng, Seng, Chou, My, Ger, and Tou Mao.
