Sophia Camille Buxton was born on March 8, 1926 in Starks, Louisiana and went to be with our Lord Jesus on July 1, 2021. She was 95 years of age. She was the last living of 12 children, all who have gone to be with their Maker.
Sophia graduated from Starks High School In Starks, Louisiana, in 1944 and then went to work at Consolidate Steel in Orange Texas in 1945. She then worked for Sally Anne Dress Shop in Beaumont, Texas, until 1947.
She married the love of her life, Elvin McCormick (whom everyone called Mac), in Orange, Texas, on April 7, 1947. Together they had two sons; Dale Allen and Dean Roland . Dale was tragically killed in an automobile accident in 1965.
In mid 1964 Sophia became a licensed daycare provider until she retired in 1984. She loved the children she cared for and was greatly appreciated by their parents.
Sophia is survived by her son, Dean, daughter-in-law, Sherrie, three grandchildren; Michelle, Matthew, and Adrianna, and three great -grandchildren; Titus, Kaiden, and Trinity.
Graveside services will be held at El Camino Memorial Park on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at 11:00 AM. The address is 5600 Carroll Canyon Road. Officiated by Pastor James Larson of the Anchor Church, where she had been a member since 1957.
