Ruth, the only child of Ethel and Edward Kloss, lived a wonderful, happy life, She was born in Staten Island, New York. She graduated from Port Richmond High School and attended Wagner College and Paine Hall School for Medical Assistants. Ruth served in the U.S. Navy in the WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) during WWII, and was stationed at Naval Air Station, Corpus Christi, Texas, where she achieved the rank of Pharmacists Mate First Class.
After serving her country, Ruth returned to Staten Island, where she eventually met her soulmate, Carl Renner. They had two daughters, Renee and Laurie. Ruth was a women ahead of her time, working for a brief period of time as the first woman to deliver mail with the U.S. Postal Service on Staten Island in 1962. She missed her medical vocation, and returned to working in various doctor’s offices and at Sailor Snug Harbor as an medical assistant, x-ray technician and Cobalt machine operator.
Ruth and her family moved to her beloved Seminole, Florida in 1969, and continued to work for awhile in various doctor’s offices. Ruth’s passions including cooking, cake decorating, sewing, camping, photography and her church activities. She was a very involved mother, and loved raising her girls and caring for her grandchild. Upon Carl’s passing in 2007, she moved to San Marcos, California in early 2008 to be closer to her daughters. Even in her new home, Ruth remained active in her senior community activities.
Both Ruth and Carl loved to travel the world, and took several different trips lasting over several months to travel throughout Europe and Asia. She loved the planning of the trip as much as the actual travel itself. Both were fearless travelers, never using guided tours, but striking out on their own adventures. Even after Carl’s passing, she continue to travel to places she desired to see with her daughter, going to Alaska and her final overseas trip at age 89 to Australia and New Zealand.
Ruth was a loving, gentle soul, an exceptional mother and grandmother, who will be remembered with wonderful memories, but will be missed by her family and many friends. Ruth is survived by her daughters, Renee and Laurie, son-in-law David, granddaughter Kimberly, and great-grandsons, Colton and Gavin.
A memorial service in her honor will be held in the spring in Seminole, Florida, and she will be interned at the Garden Sanctuary in Seminole.
