Born to Carol Christensen Skord and Daniel Skord, Jr. on October 7, 1946, in Chicago, IL. At the age of 18 mos. Conrad E. Kubina, became her Stepfather, and she took the name of Linda J Kubina. She grew up in Naperville, IL and graduated from Naperville High School in 1964 with many lifelong dear friends, and the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana with a Major in Chemistry and Mathematics. She continued at Illinois State University in Normal, IL obtaining a Teaching Degree. After College she taught Junior High School Math and Science in Riverside Brookfield, IL. One of her teaching colleagues introduced her to David W. Hansen, OD and they were married at Our Saviors’ Lutheran Church in Naperville, IL on July 24, 1971. They had two children, John David Hansen, and Stephanie Jean Hansen, and resided in West Des Moines, IA. Linda started her professional career in the banking industry and assisted in the management of the Federal Reserve Regional Checking Processing Division in Des Moines, IA, and later spent 35 years as a broker with Iowa Realty and Coldwell Banker in West Des Moines and Laguna Niguel, CA. Linda and Dave moved to Laguna Hills, CA in 2004 for expanded career opportunities.
Linda was active and volunteered in Des Moines with the Junior League, Des Moines Science Center, Iowa Optometric Association Auxiliary, Girl Scouts, Church Activities, and the children’s school activities. She served on HOA Board positions in Laguna Hills, CA and San Diego, CA.
She loved children and grandchildren with their activities; and surrounded herself with her dogs. Her vibrant personality always provided “life” and “fun” for anyone with her. She was outgoing and always gave of herself.
She prided herself with always “Coordinating her Clothing and Fashion Outfits”, which was passed on to her family. She was known to give the same gift multiple times to the same person even in the same color because she liked her choice the year before which provided humor for family Holidays!
As a young girl, she was taught to sew, but she took that skill to a higher level when her children were very young, and she was not “formerly” working in West Des Moines. She started a business sewing and making clothes, including elaborate outfits, fur jackets and even Period costumes for the Living History Farms events. She called herself the “Fashion Consultant To The Zodiac” after studying Fung Shui and other Eastern Culture Traditions. She applied these ideas to Life and especially in Real Estate.
Her family’s cooking and baking influence, especially from her Grandmother, provided a talent for her famous Danish Coffeecakes, pastries and “Throw Anything at Dough Cookies” for the kids in the neighborhood and the La Jolla Varsity Volleyball team.
Her humor was very “wry”, and she wove it into most of her life as “a Force of Nature.” Linda will be dearly missed!
Linda is survived by her husband, Dave, San Diego, CA and two children, John (Erika) Hansen West Des Moines, IA and Stephanie (Brandon) Spann La Jolla, CA; five grandchildren Morgan Ashley Hansen, Van Joseph Hansen, Harper Emery Hansen, William David Spann and Nolan Thomas Spann; her sister-in-law, Joy Elaine Hansen, San Diego, CA; her sisters Pat (Bruce) Kerback, Joliet, IL , Lenore (Rick) Chase, Sun Lake, AZ, and Nancy (Mike) Carroll, Arkdale, WI; Nephews Michael Chase (Brooke and Taylor) Phoenix, AZ, Lt Col Steve (Maranda) Chase (Kellen and Leighton) Goodyear, AZ, Matthew Kerback (Tristan and Cheyenne), Joliet, IL and Christopher Kerback Chicago, IL, Gregory Baughman (Alicia) Sparta, TN (Ray, Charles, and Tiffany) and niece, Stacy Kamencik (Andrew) Virginia, MN (Amanda and Amber).
