Larissa Jayne Dizon, age 43, passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2023, in San Diego, California, surrounded by her family and close friends. She is survived by her parents, Hilario and Sally; younger brother, Kristoffer; boyfriend, Melvyn; and countless aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, Godchildren, friends, and colleagues. She is preceded in death by paternal grandmother, Araceli “Inang” Dizon and paternal aunt, Gloria Dizon Tayag.
Larissa was born on May 18, 1980 in Long Beach, California to Hilario and Sally Dizon. Having been raised as a Navy child, Larissa experienced living her childhood in both Japan and the United States. The Dizon Family returned to the states and permanently settled in the suburb of Mira Mesa, San Diego to be close to family.
In 1998, Larissa graduated as valedictorian from Scripps Ranch High School. She attended University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. After graduation, Larissa moved back home and began her career in higher education. In 2004, Larissa accepted a position with Alliant University, serving as an executive administrator, providing support to the University’s California School of Professional Psychology’s professors, academic staff and students.
She believed in “living life to the fullest,” especially with family and friends. She was an avid reader, whose interests spanned from Harry Potter to Jane Austen. A world traveler, she loved to explore new places, which included visits to Thailand, Italy, and a two-months backpacking trip through Europe with her aunt Yolanda, uncle Robert, cousin Brittany and brother KC. Larissa was a lover of the arts, from Broadway musicals and concerts, to her annual Comic-Con trip. She was both a talented cook and a connoisseur of fine dining. Larissa’s openness to trying something new and learning was respected and admired by all. In 2017, she was even selected as a contestant on the game show, Jeopardy.
Larissa’s compassionate heart was always felt by those around her. She was a role model to those who knew her, not just for her intelligence, but for her warmth and kindness as well. She deeply valued her family and friends, expressing appreciation for them through her thoughtfulness and generosity.
Although she left us too soon, Larissa leaves behind an indelible legacy of love and friendship. She touched the lives of many and the memories we shared will forever be cherished. Though she is no longer with us in person, her beautiful soul and nurturing spirit will continue to guide us, reminding us to live each day to the fullest. It is comforting to know she is with our heavenly Father and that we will see her again one day.
Viewing and funeral services will be held at El Camino Memorial. To honor and celebrate Larissa’s life, the Dizon Family is kindly requesting for guests to dress in her favorite colors, lavender and burgundy.
