James (Jimmy) Ross Shiner passed away on June 30, 2016. He was born in Price, Utah on December 21, 1920. His parents were Ross Wilford and Sophia Shiner. James grew up in Utah with two brothers and a sister. He married Norma Jensen in 1943 and the two remained married for 62 years until Norma’s death in 2005. He actively supported Norma in her leadership role in the San Diego Chapter of the American Cancer Society.
James was a Major in the United States Air Force and served in the Second World War and the Korean War. He was a principal owner of Zuest Dental Laboratory in San Diego and inventor of the Shiner Magnet for dental implants. His main hobby was restoring vintage Jaguar automobiles. His love of classic cars culminated in his role as a principal member of the committee that brought Concours d’Elegance to San Diego. He was a long-time supporter of San Diego sports, holding season tickets to the Gulls and Chargers. He made many of his closest friends from attending these games.
He is survived by family members of his brothers, Jack and Bill Shiner and his Sister Bernadette Minnite.
A memorial service for Mr. Shiner will be held at the Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery at 11:30 AM on Friday, July 29, 2016.
