Jim, the son of Thomas J. and Betty (Kean) O’Neill (both deceased) was born in Omaha, Nebraska, the youngest of four: Thomas M. O’Neill (deceased), Pat O’Neill Sauerman, and Mary Ellen Furstenberg.
Jim grew up in Scottsdale, AZ, attending Saguaro High School and the University of Arizona.
Jim’s professional life included a 36-year career with the U.S. Postal Service as a Station Manager, Auditor and, ultimately, Postmaster. Upon retirement he found his passion in a new career as a property manager with Logan Family Properties.
Jim is survived by his wife, Alexandra, and twin sons, Gregory and Christopher O’Neill.
Jim met his then future wife through mutual friends at a San Diego Chargers football game in the early 1980s. They married three years later, making their first home in Village Park.
Upon the arrival of their twin sons in 1992, they moved to a bigger home in his beloved Encinitas where the family thrived among family and friends in the Saint John’s, La Costa Canyon and YMCA communities.
Jim was a loving husband to Alexandra, proud father to Gregory and Christopher, devoted brother to his sisters and brothers-in-law, beloved by his adoring mother-in-law, “uncle dad” to his nieces and nephews, and celebrated among extended family, cherished friends and wonderful neighbors.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim’s name may be made to the Emilio Nares Foundation or the Magdalena Ecke Family YMCA.
