Irving Albert Goldfarb

April 30, 1924 – October 9, 2024

La Jolla, CA – Irv Goldfarb, 100, passed away peacefully at his home after a long and adventurous life. He was the beloved husband of the late Doris Koffler Goldfarb for nearly 75 years, father to his sons Mark Goldfarb (Beth Levine) and Jerry Gold (Ken Knara), grandfather to Brittney (Aaron Noparstak) and Eliot Goldfarb (Francesca Shlain), Evan and Emily Gold, and great-grandfather to Danielle and Olivia Noparstak. Irv was blessed to be able to have his family around him to celebrate his 100th birthday in April.

Irv was born in New York to Morris and Tessie (Kalb) Goldfarb. He was predeceased by his brother Eddie Goldfarb. He grew up in the Bronx and served in the U.S. Army. Upon returning from his service, he was fixed up with Doris Koffler who eventually became his wife and partner in life and in adventure. Doris and Irv married on May 29, 1949, eventually moving from the Bronx to New Jersey and then settling in Jericho, NY, on Long Island where they raised their family.

Irv was an entrepreneur before entrepreneurship was in vogue. He was a co-owner with his father-in-law and brother-in-law of Daily Toiletries, a drug store supply business in New York City, and Irv was responsible for the growth and expansion of the business during its heyday. Upon relocation to the San Diego area in the 1980’s, Irv founded 7-Day Rent-a-Car, providing rental car services to companies in the area. Irv was an avid tennis player right up until age 96 when the pandemic forced the closure of the public courts in La Jolla. He had many tennis buddies from over the decades and remained in contact with them until his final days.

Irv and his wife traveled extensively and had countless adventures in the U.S. and abroad. They kept a world map in their home office with pins in every place they had visited. The map is covered with little red pinheads because they traveled to six continents, countless countries, and most of the 50 United States. For 10 years, they owned a studio apartment in Marbella, Spain, which they visited as often as possible. Irv was known to say that those 10 years were the best years of his life.

Irv loved his family above all else; his two sons and his four grandchildren were a source of great pride to him. In recent years, he delighted in watching his identical twin great-granddaughters grow and develop into bright, funny and loving preschoolers.

Irv is survived by his sons, their partners, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements have been made at El Camino Memorial Park, where the graveside service will be private.
