Huong Lee Woo was born in Saigon, Vietnam in 1943. She and her seven siblings (five sisters and two brothers) were raised by their parents, Cung Huu Lee and Phuong Do Lee. She married Tuong Woo in 1964 and had four daughters, Anna, Katrina, Charlene, and Samantha.
Mrs.Woo and her family immigrated to San Diego, California in May 1980. She worked as a Cashier at a grocery store and her husband worked as a Chef at a restaurant to support the family.
As a Mother she sacrificed a lot to provide the best of the best for her four children. She devoted all her life to them. She taught her children how to love, how to respect, and how to forgive. Her children were precious to her from the moment she gave birth to them to the day she passed away.
Mrs. Woo was diagnosed with gastric cancer in April 2010. She had partial stomach surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and hospice care. She really fought hard for her life, but unfortunately her cancer spread very quickly and she didn’t respond well to treatments. During this painful time, she had the opportunity to experience God. Mrs. Woo accepted Christ in June 2010 and was baptized in March 2011 at UCSD Thornton Hospital. From that moment on she was a very faithful follower of Jesus, never turning back. She found peace and love from God.
When Mrs. Woo passed away at 8:15 a.m. on Thursday, September 1, 2011, at San Diego Hospice, her daughters were there by her side at all times holding her hands. She was not struggling. She felt no fear. She was at peace. Toward the end, Mrs. Woo just opened her eyes slightly, with tear drops in the corner of her eyes, bid farewell to her daughters. They gazed into her eyes and knew their mother saw them for the very last time. At that moment the room was comfortable, serene, and bright, and Mrs. Woo passed away peacefully. Her daughters were sad, but at same time they were at peace to know that their Mother was with Jesus. Two nights ago before her passing, she extended both of her arms out, her eyes lit up, and she had an amazing smile on her face. When asked if Jesus was who she saw, she nodded her head. It was the most unforgettable moment. All her wishes had been fulfilled.
Mrs. Woo was very blessed to have a lot of support from her wonderful daughters, son in-laws, grandchildren, sisters, brothers, cousins, friends, and brothers and sisters in Christ. She was able to love everyone unconditionally, and in return, she received so much love and respect.
Huong Lee Woo was a very independent, sociable, generous, considerate, brave, caring, understanding, forgiving, and loving person. She was loved by all doctors and nurses. The biggest joy in her life was to see everyone happy and be at peace. Her cooking was a way of bringing families together and that was her passion.
Mrs. Woo was a great role model to her daughters. She was a loving mother from the very beginning to the very end. She will be missed by all.
