

Huệ Dương was born to the late Dương Văn Thế and Nguyễn Thị Mười on a farm in the countryside of Mỹ Tho, Vietnam, on January 12, 1961. She escaped Vietnam at the age of 16 with her oldest sister and her three children. After an arduous journey, she ended up in Portland, OR where she attended high school and community college and met her husband, Thân Lưu. She graduated from the University of Portland in 1985 with a degree in electrical engineering. She accepted a civilian electrical engineering position with the Department of the Navy in Alameda, CA and later relocated to San Diego in 1994, where she enjoyed a long and fulfilling career of 33 years.
Huệ was blessed with a large and loving family. She is the middle child of 11 children. She married Thân in 1987 and had two daughters, Elizabeth and Christina. Huệ was a very present and involved mother. She raised her children with patience, discipline, and humility. She always emphasized the importance being a good person. Huệ truly loved her family and friends. She loved capturing memories with all of her loved ones by photography. For her parents, she always tried her best to care for them while living far apart from them. She always remained significantly involved with her entire extended family and was deeply loved by all those around her.
Huệ was known for being immensely talented in all of her hobbies, which included cooking and gardening. Additionally, she loved sharing these hobbies with others by giving and teaching. She loved being active and even after retirement, she spent six days per week working out at the gym. She had a beautiful smile and was known for her positive, cheerful, yet calm demeanor, and always offered an ear to listen and a shoulder to cry on for those who needed it. She will be dearly missed by her loved ones.
Huệ is survived by her husband, Thân; her daughters, Elizabeth and Christina Lưu ; her siblings, Cẩm N. Dương, Trinh N. Dương, Minh H. Dương, Nghĩa H. Dương, Ân H. Dương,, Hải H. Dương, Hương N. Dương, Danh N. Dương, Diệu H. Dương, and Nguyên H. Dương. She is preceded in death by her parents.
