Genevieve McCreery passed away peacefully on February 26, 2011 at the age of 89 in Oceanside, CA. She was born on May 19, 1921, and grew up in the Milwaukee, WI area. Genevieve then graduated from Riverside High School in Milwaukee and worked for the local Allen-Bradley Company following her graduation. She met and married Russell McCreery on September 30, 1944. Spending the next 23 years as a Marine wife, she lived at Camp Pendleton, CA, Camp LeJeune, NC, Washington, DC, Philadelphia, PA, Quantico, VA, and San Diego, CA. In San Diego, she briefly worked for May Co., and for 30 years, Genevieve faithfully served as a volunteer at St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral Thrift Shop in Hillcrest. She was very active in the Alpha Gamma Delta Mother’s Club at San Diego State University, and was also heavily involved with the Marine Officer’s Wives Club wherever the family was stationed. One of Genevieve’s prevalent passions was to knit. She spent a large amount of her time knitting Layettes for the Navy Relief Society for new military mothers. Above all, Genevieve was a very loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother to her family. She is survived by her husband Russell of Oceanside, CA, three children, daughter Catherine Green and husband Stephen of Lake Forest, CA, son Thomas of Murrieta, CA, and son Robert and wife Jeanie of Oceanside, CA, 7 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. Services will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral in San Diego at 10:30am on March 22, 2011 with inurnment at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Operation Homefront of Southern California, PO Box 26747 San Diego, CA 92196.
