Fernando Correia, aged 94, passed away peacefully in San Diego, CA on October 12th, 2024. Born in 1930 on the picturesque island of San Miguel, Azores, Fernando’s life was a testament to resilience, love, and profound dedication.
The son of Francisco, and Maria-Conceicao Correia, Fernando’s early years in San Miguel were nurtured by the island’s natural beauty and close-knit community. At the age 17, his family migrated to the United States where he volunteered for active duty in the Air Force during the Korean War. After 4 years of service Fernando returned to the Azores in 1956 to marry his childhood sweetheart, Carmelia Morais. Their love story, marked by deep affection and mutual respect, became the cornerstone of his life’s narrative, anchoring them as they navigated life’s diverse challenges together.
Beyond his professional life as a commercial painter for over 33 years, Fernando’s other passions and accomplishments included being a Radio Personality on the Portuguese Hour Radio Program, serving as President of the Portuguese American Social and Civic Club for over 4 years, sitting on the Cabrillo National Monument Board for two years and actively participating as a lector and Eucharistic minister at Saint Agnes church.
Fernando is survived by his two daughters Beverly Kelly and Tricia Correia, his son Richard Correia and daughter-in-law Lori Correia, grandson Michael Correia and fiancé Andrea Campbell.
Fernando Correia's memory will forever be a beacon of love, resilience, and dedication. His legacy will continue to inspire and uplift those who follow in his footsteps.
