She leaves her husband of 56 years, Candido Rajel Elgo Jr, her daughter Jeanette Elgo Soriano and husband Fernando “Mick” Soriano, son Michael Serrano Elgo and wife Kristen Elgo, along with (4) grandchildren Natalie Soriano, Alexander Soriano, Branden Elgo, and Kaileigh Elgo.
Conchita was born November 8, 1941 in Santa Rita, Pampanga, Philippines to Faustina DeAusen Serrano and Gregorio G. Serrano. She was the 7th of eight children: Restituta Mangiliman (D), Emiliana David (D), Eladia Semsem (D), Mariano Serrano, Estela Gerona (D), Nicholas Serrano (D), and Felicisimo Serrano. Along with her two brothers Mariano and Felicisimo, she is survived by many nieces and nephews who reside in San Diego, Texas, Midwest, and East Coast, Canada, Europe, Middle East, and the Philippines.
She met her husband Candido in 1959 while living with her sister and waitressing in Olongapo. They married on September 28, 1963. She immediately became a Navy wife moving from base to base, finally settling in San Diego in 1972 and making this home. Shortly after she began working at Kyocera as an Electronics Assembler and worked there until the Mid-1990’s.
Conchita was the Family Matriarch, a loving mother, grandmother, and aunt. Conchita, with her husband Candido, have always had an open and generous heart. They helped many family members establish new roots here in San Diego from the Philippines. They opened their home and provided emotional support as family got settled and established with jobs and living arrangements.
Conchita had an intense love and devotion to her family and friends and often encouraged them to be the best version of themselves. Along with her generous spirit, she had the ability to make people feel welcome and wanted in her home. She was an incredible cook and baker. Conchita also had an amazing green thumb. She took pride in the many fruits and vegetables in her backyard, which she often shared with family members and friends. She was especially proud of her persimmons. She also had a passion for orchids, her favorite flower, which are on display throughout her home.
You would often find Conchita walking in the early mornings with her friends around Lake Miramar as her husband would ride his bicycle around the lake, waving to each other as he passed by. Conchita and Candido were also world travelers and avid cruisers, and they would often be among the first ones to be on the dance floor, showing off their ballroom dancing skills.
Conchita will be tremendously missed and her spirit will live on in all who have been touched by her.
