"Cindy" Kaichan Liang passed away Monday the 12th of December after contracting Covid-19 during her courageous 8-year battle with cancer. Cindy was born in 1972 in Guangzhou, China, as the youngest child into a family with father Weixiong Liang, late mother Qimei Li and two brothers Kaifeng and Kaile. This was during China's infamous one-child policy and despite her parents complying with all the restrictive policies the government put in place, she was born. Against all odds, Cindy's life was truly a miracle.
Guangzhou during Cindy's formative years was going through an exciting period of rapid growth and change after the economic opening of China. As Guangzhou rapidly developed into the center of industry and trade, Cindy similarly thrived in rigorous academic settings. She consistently reached the top of her class, always being selected for the most prestigious schools including Affiliated High School of South China Normal University and South China University of Technology. At the same time, she mastered the violin and went on to win several competitions for her virtuosity and musicality. After receiving her Bachelors of Engineering (B.E.) in computer engineering, she pursued opportunities to study in America and was accepted at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor for a master's program.
Although being far from home, she was graciously supported by her brothers, Kaifeng and Kaile, during her first semester abroad. Afterwards, she quickly adjusted to living in the states by supporting herself as a teaching assistant, learning how to drive, and gaining proficiency in English through sitcoms like Seinfeld. She graduated in 1997 with a degree in Masters of Science (M.S.) in Computer Science and Engineering.
Shortly after graduating, she came to San Diego to join Qualcomm as a software engineer. She would go on to have an illustrious 25-year career at Qualcomm, eventually rising to the position of Director of Product Management.
It was also in San Diego where she met her loving husband, Michael Chen, with whom she would have 3 wonderful surviving children: Walter, Theodore, and Victoria. They also had a son, George, who sadly passed at birth. With her surviving children she shared her love of music , imparting a deep appreciation for music within them and inspiring them to flourish in each of their chosen musical endeavors. As luck would have it, in 2014 her brother, Kaile, and his family immigrated to the United States happily joining her family in San Diego. She was overjoyed to have more close family nearby and to see them adapt and prosper here in the U.S. Cindy was the brightest when she was singing, watching her children's music performances, and spending time with family.
Friends and family will miss her music, her voice, and her smile. She was a devoted and loving daughter and sister, a bright and dedicated student, an inspiring and nurturing wife and mother, and a kind and loyal friend and colleague. We will always keep her in our hearts. Please come celebrate Cindy's life with us on Saturday December 31st, 10am at El Camino Memorial Park.
(University of Michigan at Ann Arbor)的赏识并被学院邀请攻读硕士学位。
(Cindy)!
