Arturo Art “Sangko” Maniquis Rivera was born in the Philippines in the town of San Miguel, Bulacan on August 27, 1947. He was born to parents Saturnino and Liwayway Rivera and was the third of eight children (Sonny, Fred, Art, Marilou, Pepe, Nenette, Vee, and Crispy).
As a child, Arturo faced and overcame many challenges associated with cerebral palsy, a condition he was born with. He was continually surrounded with the care and protection of his parents, siblings, friends, and loving neighbors. He was well-known and loved in his hometown neighborhood of San Jose, San Miguel.
In July of 1987, Arturo immigrated to the United States with a batch of his siblings and relatives. In the year 1995, Arturo became a proud naturalized citizen of the United States of America.
Arturo was a pillar of the local Filipino-American community, and his presence was always felt and enjoyed at family gatherings, reunions, and hometown fiestas. He would often be found mingling with party-goers, or simply sitting back observing, sending his warm smiles and heartfelt greetings to those in attendance.
Arturo passed away peacefully due to natural causes on August 18, 2021. He is survived by siblings, cousins, nephews and nieces, grand-nephews and grand-nieces, and a multitude of good friends he made throughout the journey of his life.
Arturo’s life and legacy is a testament to the power of family and community, and a shining reminder that love conquers and triumphs over all. We will miss him dearly.
We love you very big!
