THOMAS PHILIP COLEMAN was born on October 6, 1976, in West Covina, CA, to Robert Francis Coleman and Janice Womack. He was the third of five children. He grew up in West Covina, CA, along with his brother, Joseph Coleman, and sisters, Jennifer Coleman Chagas, Kathleen Poole, and Mary Coleman Heinen. He graduated Damien High School in 1994 and pursued a career in the United States Marine Corps. He served meritoriously from September 4, 1996, to February 3, 2001. While enlisted, Tom served as a Land Support Specialist and a Marine Embassy Security Guard in both Rome and Romania. Tom was honorably discharged at the rank of sergeant after five years of meritorious service. Tom joined the California Highway Patrol in September of 2002. After completing the academy in March of 2003, he was assigned to the Altadena CHP office, where he served for five years. While in Altadena, he met and married the love of his life and soul mate, Jamie Jean Long. Jamie then gave Tom the greatest birthday gift a man could ask for by giving birth to their first born, Ryan Joseph Coleman, on October 6, 2007. He then transferred to the San Bernardino CHP Area office in March 2008, where he pursued his aspirations of becoming a CHP Motorcycle Officer. He successfully completed motor school on June 12, 2008, and rode as 75-M12. On October 9, 2009, Jamie gave birth to "Daddy's little girl", Shaylen Marie Coleman. Tom was a dedicated family man who enjoyed playing with his kids, riding motorcycles, hiking, and following the NFL. Tom also enjoyed watching and quoting a multitude of movies, which made everyone around him laugh. He is remembered for his passion for his job as a CHP officer, his smirk, mischievous sense of humor, and twinkling eyes. Tom was also known for his incredibly warm, big bear hugs; anyone who knew him looked forward to receiving one at each greeting. He will be forever missed.
